Lawyer - Abdul Khaliq bin Nazeri

Abdul Khaliq graduated with Bachelor of Law (LL.B) (Hons) degree from Universiti Teknologi Mara, UiTM.
He subsequently commenced his pupillage at Messrs Yong & Rakan-rakan, Klang, in 2016.
After being admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor in 2017, he honed his skills as a litigator at Mohaji, Hazury & Ismail, handling complex civil cases, including but not limited to land disputes, land reference proceedings, debt recovery, and judicial review proceedings. Additionally, he handled breach of contract cases at arbitration.
In 2019, he joined the Attorney General’s Chambers as a Deputy Public Prosecutor in Kuala Lumpur, where he prosecuted a wide range of cases in the Magistrates’ Court and Sessions Court, including narcotics offenses, fraud, commercial crime, and culpable homicide. His courtroom expertise includes conducting trials for serious offenses such as attempted murder, firearms possession, and drug-related crimes. His experience extends to forfeiture of property proceedings as well as inquiry proceedings at the Coroner’s Court, where he showcased his ability to handle high-stakes cases with meticulous care.
In 2023, he was transferred to the Malaysia Department of Insolvency (MdI), where he served as Federal Counsel and Assistant Director of Insolvency for Kuala Lumpur. In this role, he played an instrumental part in administering bankruptcy cases in compliance with the Insolvency Act. He handled intricate insolvency issues and provided legal advice to MdI in accordance with the law. His responsibilities encompassed reviewing applications for property sales, processing bankrupts’ requests—including sanctions and discharges—and approving overseas applications.
In 2024, he was appointed as a Judicial Officer, becoming Senior Assistant Registrar of the High Court of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, as well as Sheriff of the Admiralty Court. He administers cases and executes judicial responsibilities, ranging from hearing and deciding civil matters to issuing orders in commercial disputes and interlocutory applications.
As Sheriff of the Admiralty Court, he processes the filing of admiralty papers, exercises admiralty jurisdiction which may take the form of action in rem or action in personam, executes arrest warrants on vessels, ensures the safe custody of vessels, and oversees the preservation of vessels under arrest.
